About Our Foundation
St. Joseph’s Hospitals Foundation inspires the community to engage in philanthropic investment in the special brand of care that is St. Joseph’s Hospitals. Community support for St. Joseph’s reflects the trust and reliance generations of patients and families have in us, and has helped to preserve our rich tradition of compassionate care while fueling innovation and medical excellence, and making possible facilities, technology, programs and services to better serve each patient’s needs.
St. Joseph’s Hospitals Foundation is entrusted with the community’s philanthropic investment in St. Joseph’s Hospitals. As a qualified 501(c)3 charitable organization, our role is to secure, manage and steward philanthropic support to benefit the healthcare mission of St. Joseph’s Hospital, St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital, St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital, St. Joseph’s Hospital North, and St. Joseph’s Hospital South, all located in the greater Tampa, Florida region.
The Foundation secures private and corporate gifts and grants through annual giving programs, proposal submissions, major and planned gift development and special events. To fulfill this responsibility, the Foundation also conducts outreach and communication activities on behalf of our hospitals to engage the community in our mission. A professional staff is employed to carry out these programs and manage the administrative and financial responsibilities.
The Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors made up of community-based volunteers, including business leaders, church representatives, and individuals who hold St. Joseph’s and health care among their personal charitable priorities.
Stewardship and Privacy
We strive to be a model in donor and gift stewardship and as such subscribe to the Donor Bill of Rights set forth by the American Association of Fundraising Counsel, the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy, CASE, and AFP. We are responsible for donor and gift stewardship, including management of donated funds to ensure fulfillment of donor intent now and in the future. We hold donor privacy as a high priority and have a designated member of our staff to ensure compliance and to monitor that Foundation representatives and associates adhere to HIPAA privacy standards and regulations. The Foundation does not sell or trade donor information.
Financial Stewardship, Reporting, and Compliance
An independent audit of the Foundation’s financial position is conducted annually and reviewed by the Board of Trustees to ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principals in the United States. The Foundation complies with all necessary reporting to maintain our IRS designated 501(c) 3 status, including a 990 tax return, and Florida State Registration #CH654. We attempt to cover Foundation operating costs with investment income and earnings, before using any donated funds. A 5% fund management fee is allocated annually for unrestricted purposes and may be designated for Hospital and Foundation needs including endowment, operations and programs.
Gifts to the Foundation are tax deductible as allowed by law and an appropriate gift acknowledgement or receipt is provided to each donor.
